Power is out in the north after Minnesota power outage

Power is now out in parts of the north of the state after an outage caused by an electrical fault.

Power in the area was restored to about 90,000 customers in Minneapolis and surrounding areas about 6:00pm (AEDT) and was expected to resume at 8:00am (AEST).

The outage is the latest in a string of power outages in the state.

Power outages and flooding in the wake of an earthquake earlier this year caused a blackout across the state, causing power cuts for about 2.5 million customers.
